Brown holds on to claim GTNZ Olex Taranaki Open

Wellington golfer Mark Brown earned his first major victory as a professional when he took out the $40,000 GTNZ Olex Taranaki Open in New Plymouth today.

The overnight leader shot a final round two-under par 70 to finish on 14-under par 274 to hold off all chasers at the Ngamotu links course. He finished three shots ahead of Asian Tour professional Mathew Holten (Christchurch) with a further two shots back to local professional Grant Moorhead on nine-under.

Three players shared fourth place including professionals Brad Shilton (Waikato) and Michael Hendry (Auckland) along with leading amateur, New Zealand's No 1 Josh Geary on eight under.   READ MORE > >

Wellington professional Mark Brown will take a four shot lead into tomorrow?s final round of the $40,000 GTNZ Olex Taranaki Open in New Plymouth. Brown, chasing his first four-round victory as a professional, fired a four-under par 68 today to move to 12-under after 54 holes at New Plymouth Golf Club today.

New Zealand representative Josh Geary produced a superb seven-under par 67 to grab a share of the lead after the second round of the GTNZ Olex Taranaki Open today.

Geary's seven-under par tally was one shot off the course record at the New Plymouth Golf Club to leave him at the top of the leaderboard with Wellington professional Mark Brown who shot a six-under 66 today at the New Plymouth Golf Club.   READ MORE > >

Nobilo leads first round at GTNZ Olex Taranaki Open

North Harbour professional Luke Nobilo fired a six-under par 66 to lead after the first round of the GTNZ Olex Taranaki Open in New Plymouth today. Nobilo, who has been playing fulltime this year, has a one shot lead over fellow professional Hamish Robertson and local amateur Troy Ropiha at the New Plymouth Golf Club.

The $40,000 purse event is part of the Golf Tour New Zealand established by Greg Turner to provide opportunities for young New Zealand professionals and to raise the bar for the leading amateurs, both men and women.   READ MORE > >

Holloway holds off Lee to win GTNZ Wairakei Open

Hawkes Bay golfer Doug Holloway claimed his first four-round victory as a professional when he took out the $40,000 GTNZ Wairakei Open near Taupo today.

Holloway, who won the GTNZ Taranaki Open last year as an amateur, birdied the first playoff hole to dispose of brilliant Rotorua teenager Danny Lee.

Patience proved the key for Hawkes Bay professional Doug Holloway who takes a two-shot lead into tomorrow’s final round of the $40,000 GTNZ Wairakei Open.

New Zealand women’s representative Sarah Nicholson has created history by leading the $40,000 GTNZ Wairakei Open near Taupo today.
